It took a while but I found out the problem. For some reason, the song that played on the cut-scene was freezing the game if it was downsampled, but after I restored the original file everything worked again. It increased only around 600kb on overburn, so I doubt you'll have any problems burning this. At least, I hadn't. I hope this is the final release, I can't work on this game anymore LOL. Don't forget reading the original readme below, it has important information. If this repack is the first download for you of my release, be sure to read the overburn information. ===================== Original readme file: ===================== --------------------------------- Grandia II [Single Disc] (NTSC-U) --------------------------------- Ripped: Nothing (!). Downsampled: All sounds monoized (including video's); voices downsampled; videos downsampled. Source: Echelon's release, GD dump. === ATTENTION: === This release is for standard 80min CD-R but it needs around 5mb overburn (< 1%). I tested burning this in two different brands of CD-R and in one CD-RW, burning ended without errors and all data could be read with success in my PC DVD drive. Both CD-R booted and worked alright in my Dreamcast. The boot binary is in the "critical" zone (overburnt), so if your game boots nice it won't present any errors after since other files are in the "safe" zone. So, for burning, be sure to use a nice brand 80min CD-R. Getting a bigger CD is not necessary. Burn in a good speed (4x, 8x or 16x) and I doubt you'll have any problem. To burn this with DiscJuggler, you have to go in the "Advanced Tab" and mark "Overburn CD", else it will say media is too small and it will cancel recording. If you're using Alcohol 120%, you'll have to figure out how to record by yourself. ================== My last release was a split release following Echelon's file separation. However, some people were complaining that the game was freezing in a part in second disc, so I had to take a look on that. I was bored anyway, so I took a time to analyse this game more deeply and see if I could make it fit on a single disc. All single discs versions of Grandia II that I saw had the videos ripped, what is really annoying. I'll save you from listening all my story (and myself of writing it all), and I'll tell you the final part. After some (correction: a lot) of experiments, I finally could finish this release. All sounds were monoized, as usual, using high quality decoders. Voices were downsampled, and fortunately they didn't got annoying or too bad. Videos were downsampled to the maximum I could without making them crap. I used VBR for them, and that was the decisive factor that made the space enough. Note that videos are ugly, they're far from perfect, but you can watch them without problems. And by the way, if you check their size you'll realize that it's a miracle that they got so good. I tried to downsample the skills videos, but if I changed them the game froze, so they got intact. I also shrinked the AFS files to make the more space I could. I used Echelon's main binary, and game files are all there, so I'm sure the game will work until the end without errors. Oh, and I was able to figure out a better file order than last time, so loading times are faster and reader's noise is very reduced. Did I make history again? Well, I hope. Enjoy Grandia II with full content on a single disc. Features of my release: - Not corrupted files at all, it was made with GD dump files. - Nothing ripped, and the game is on a single disc. - All downsampling were made using high quality decoders and encoders. - Used custom file order based on GD's. It means faster loadings and less Dreamcast reader noise. - Selfboot. About the game: - It has VGA Box support. Other comments: - "Extras" folder in the pack contains some useless stuff. - Release comes with manual and covers.
